Eye shadow & the Basics

ALWAYS USE A BASE OR PRIMER:
For the best possible results you need to use an eyeshadow primer or base. There are many different types in different price ranges. Paint pots by Mac are a good base if you don't have primer because they prevent creasing and help the pigment of the shadow to really pop. Most neutral colored bases that are close to your skin tone work well, but you may have to try a few to get the results you are looking for. Neutrogena makes cooling eye tints. This product works really well and is an inexpensive alternative to primer potion made by most cosmetic brands. It goes on smooth and never creases.

CHOSE PIGMENTED SHADOWS:
You also want to make sure that you are using a well pigmented eyeshadow to achieve the color and look you want. With a base underneath, your colors should really pop! Find a brand that you like and work with it. Unfortunately, most cheaper brands make eyeshadows with a lot of filler and little pigment. That is why it will be best for you to spend good money on good makeup. Better eye shadow is going to cost more, but it will prove to be worth it! MAC, Urban Decay, Nars and Coastal scents are great cosmetic lines that are very well pigmented and used by many. Coastal Scents happens to be inexpensive and yet a very good product.

USE GOOD BRUSHES FOR APPLICATION & BLENDING:
If you are just starting out you don't need to spend a lot of money but little by little you will want to build your brush collection with quality brushes because they really do make a difference. Mac has great brushes that will really last you. Some less expensive alternatives are Sephora brand brushes, NYX or even Jane. You can really find some great ones if you look and you will want to stay away from cheap brushes that will waste your time and money. Better brushes will make your finished product look better with less effort from you. With any brush that you use, blending is imperative. If you don't spend the time blending, it will look like you didn't.
